Information meeting on the drying of field protection belts in Dobrudja will be held in State Hunting Unit Balchik
On September 23, 2021, from 13.00, on the territory of the State Hunting Unit -Balchik will be held a meeting related to the extinction of a large part of ash forest belts in Northeastern Bulgaria. Experts from various institutions will present the results of the sample tests that have been completed in the last two years, as well as with identified measures to deal with the problem.
As you all are aware, from the information we have provided to the media in recent months, the extinction process is considered irreversible. The Institute of Forestry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Forest Protection Station-Varna and the Regional Directorate of Forests-Varna believe that the immediate reconstruction of field protection belts and afforestation with more sustainable species should be undertaken. According to the director of the Institute Prof. Georgi Georgiev, the reasons for ash extinction are complex and it is time to undertake measures because field protection forest belts on the territory of three sub-divisions are affected: State Hunting Unit-Balchik, General Toshevo State Forestry Unit and Dobrich State Forestry Unit.
During the meeting all participants will have the chance to get acquainted with the conclusions of scientists and join the discussion on the topic so that the most appropriate measures can be identified that will lead to the restoration of these important for Dobrudzha field protection forest belts.
