An innovative method for dealing with invasive species was demonstrated to their colleagues by foresters from DLS-Tervel during training on the „Forests of the Northeast“ project under the LIFE program of the EU. They bought 600 plastic containers from the farm, which are placed on the young saplings and only after that the shoots of invasive species and unwanted vegetation are sprayed with a total herbicide.
We applied the new method to two departments that are being worked on under the LIFE program – 175 g and 175 i. These departments are in the land of the village of Gradnitsa, but we also experimented in other places, explained the director of the territorial division, Eng. Georgi Botev. According to him, this is a really excellent way to protect the saplings, and the transfer of the containers from the already sprayed areas to those that will be sprayed after them is done very quickly. At the right time, within one day, one department can be processed, said Eng. Botev categorically.
For the foresters who participated in the training in Tervel, it was interesting to find out whether the herbicides still affect the saplings and how much the containers cost. The farm director told them that the effect was visible, and that, according to him, this was currently the best way to deal with the vegetation that chokes out the young crops.
