Forest pedagogy lesson with picnic at General Toshevo State Forestry Unit
A real children’s forest happening was organized by the team of the State Forestry Unit General Toshevo and teachers from „Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov“ school. Over 100 students from 1st to 4th grade took part in the event. At the beginning of the day the children and teachers surprised the foresters with a musical-poetic program with a script written especially for the event. The director of the State Forestry Unit Dipl. Eng. Dimcho Stefanov greeted the kids and told them interesting facts about the forest and its inhabitants.
The happening continued with a lesson in Forest Pedagogy organized by experts from the State Forestry Unit Provadia, Shumen Plateau Nature Park and Northeastern State Enterprise. Each of the young students received a booklet printed under the project „Forests of the Northeast“, and in a fun way the children learned why invasive species are dangerous to our nature. The happening also included activities such as recognizing animal tracks, surviving in nature, packing a backpack and pitching tents.
Even before the games continued, the foresters from the territorial division organized a picnic. The role of chef was taken by the deputy director of the forestry unit, Dimitar Ivanov, who in a few minutes managed to feed the kids from the eight classes of the school. The newly proclaimed master chef was assisted by all forestry staff to make lunch delicious and the children to recharge their batteries before the follow-up games.
Forest happenings at General Toshevo State Forestry Unit are a tradition and children from the municipality visited the workers on the unit even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
