Engineer Radoslav Radev from DLS-Balchik will participate in the international conference on the topic „Restoration of Forest Habitats.“
The international conference on „Restoration of Forest Habitats“ will take place on October 16-17, 2024, in Sofia. Experts from Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, and Romania will discuss important issues related to forest fires, extreme temperatures in recent years, and their impact on various ecosystems, among other topics. During the forum, the possibilities for restoring forest habitats that have been destroyed for one reason or another will also be discussed. The speakers at the event will include Assoc. Prof. Momchil Panayotov and Assoc. Prof. Georgi Kostov from the University of Forestry in Sofia, Elias Tsiridis from WWF Greece, Prof. Tzvetan Zlatanov from the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Eng. Teodor Todorov from the Southwestern State Enterprise, and others.
On the second day, participants in the forum will visit a site for the restoration of tree-like juniper, hairy oak, and black pine, and later they will have the opportunity to tour the forest nursery in the village of Lokorsko.
The conference will also feature Eng. Radoslav Radev, the deputy director of the Balchik State Forestry. He will inform his colleagues about the measures being implemented by the enterprises in the Dobrich region for the restoration of protective belts. As a result of climate change, several years ago, the ash belts began to dry out, and gradually other tree species were damaged by various biotic factors. Foresters from Balchik, General Toshevo, and Tervel managed to restore part of this linear infrastructure, which helps preserve biodiversity in the area. Eng. Radev will also present to his colleagues the various experiments that were conducted in the territorial divisions thanks to two projects under the LIFE program – „Forests of the Northeast“ and „Lands and Forests of the Eagle.“
The „Restoration of Forest Habitats“ conference is organized by WWF Bulgaria, in partnership with the Southwestern State Enterprise.
