796 decares of new forests have appeared on the territory of North-East State Enterprise – Shumen thanks to project LIFE19NAT/BG/001133-LIFE IASHAB /Forests of the Northeast/. By the end of the year, another 500 decares will be reforested, as it became clear during a working meeting of the project team. Within two days the Project Manager Eng. Veska Stoyneva and the head of а department in “Commercial Companies and State Enterprises” Directorate Eng. Nikolay Vasilev visited all the sites and rated highly the foresters in State Hunting Unit – Tervel, State Hunting Unit – Balchik, State Hunting Unit – Sherba, State Forestry Unit – Novi Pazar, State Forestry Unit – General Toshevo, and State Forestry Unit – Varna. At the end of the working meeting, it became clear that despite the delay over the years, the project will be completed on time.
The LIFE IASHAB project, with the working name of „Forests of the Northeast“, is one of the initiatives of the Northeast State Enterprise – Shumen, aimed at protecting and restoring the nature and the forests on the territory managed by the enterprise.
The main project objective is to remove plantations of invasive alien species that are in unfavourable condition and to restore priority forest habitats in 10 Natura 2000 sites: Provadiysko-Royaksko Plato, Harsovska Reka, Suha Reka, Kamchia, Kraymorska Dobrudzha, Kamchiyska i Emenska Planina, Ostrovche, Preslavska Planina, Golyama Reka and Rositsa-Loznitsa.
In addition to the planned direct conservation activities, the project will contribute to the improvement of strategic planning in the forest sector and will provide opportunities for exchange of experience and good practices with experts from other European countries.
