Eng. R. Radev: The protective belts need to be restored.
Training on afforestation with container saplings was held on the territory of the General Toshevo General Hospital. The event is part of the „Forests of the Northeast“ project under the LIFE program of the EU.
The deputy director of the farm, Eng. Dimitar Ivanov, introduced his colleagues to the first attempts that were made when planting such saplings and the most important requirements in order to catch the trees. Ivanov demonstrated to his colleagues how to make a planting spot, how to remove the sapling from the container and how to compact it to avoid the effect of frost withdrawal. He explained to the training participants that the sapling must be removed from the container with the substrate and the tree must be handled much more carefully than those grown in SIDP nurseries. According to Engineer Dimitrov, all those who are yet to reforest with such saplings must also comply with the requirements for their storage.
The topic raised many questions, as some experts commented that the saplings grown in the nursery in DLS-Balchik are more suitable for Dobrudja, but with each new experiment, new knowledge and opportunities are acquired.
The container saplings used for afforestation under the Project „Removal of invasive alien species, restoration and protection of priority forest habitats from the Natura 2000 network in North-Eastern Bulgaria“ LIFE19 NAT/BG/001133 – LIFE IASHAB were produced in the nursery of the SDP in the village of Lokorsko. With the trees, afforestation was carried out in department 1253, the land of the village of Izvorovo.
